The Luman Hipakoko Community Care Centre (a major PiCCA project in 2017) is in constant use by local groups and organisations and is being embraced as a valuable resource by the community at large. Recently, the HWC facilitated a meeting of people with disability at the Luman Hipakoko where it was decided they would establish their own organisation. The Hako Hatsipito Disability Organisation has now been formed and is working out of Luman Hipakoko to address the many needs and issues of people with disability in Hako.
Never content to rest on laurels, the women of HWC are also preparing their participation in the 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT9) which will open in Brisbane on November 24. Don’t miss the opportunity to see their artwork. Check out the background story to the women artists of Hako in this article in the latest issue of Artlines magazine.
