We are excited. On May 13 PiCCA members decided to support two new projects working on chicken health, one in the Congo and one in Vietnam.
For the project in Vietnam PiCCA, in partnership with Hearts for Hue, will provide chicken raising infrastructure, training and support for 50 families in the Vinh phu community. The project is specially designed to work with families who have a disabled member to create a stable income and to improve the quality of life and standing of disabled people in the community.
In the Congo, PiCCA will work with Kyeema Foundation and AusCongo Network to establish a program of improved health, production and vaccination of village poultry in ten village zones of Mbuji-Mayi. Indigenous chicken keeping, an important livelihood in this area, is constantly at risk due to endemic diseases. Newcastle Disease in particular can kill up to 90% of the flock, making it a major constraint to village chicken production. The vaccination program will help to significantly reduce the mortality rate of domestic chickens and thereby contribute to enhanced food sustainability and income generation in the villages involved.
Simple and practical projects making a real difference.
